"I'm shocking the world. To be able to get a coach of Leon Barmore's stature out of retirement is unbelievable. And for him to join our program and help us to continue to build an elite team, it just tickles me to death. Coach Barmore got out of the game too early. He has an unbelievable mind for the game of basketball,"

--Kim Mulkey after hiring Hall of Fame coach Leon Barmore as her assistant coach at Baylor

Lauren Hagans

Lauren Hagans won the women’s 1,500 meters at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational with a school record time of 4:16.16 on Sunday night. The time also ranks as the third-fastest time in the nation this season. The former school record of 4:16.82 was set by Sandy Forsythe in 1986. Hagans won the event by more than three seconds, running the last lap virtually by herself.

Baseball

Shawn Tolleson

Redshirt-freshman Shawn Tolleson became the first Baylor pitcher to win a game at Disch-Falk Field in Austin since Cory VanAllen in 2005 last Saturday when he shut down the Longhorns in Baylor's 6-1 victory on national television. It also snapped Baylor's 11-game losing streak against Texas. Tolleson allowed one run on seven hits and six walks with seven strikeouts over 7.1 innings. He stranded seven Texas base runners in the game's first seven innings, five of which were in scoring position. Tolleson used a career-high 131 pitches, working into the eighth inning for the fourth time in eight Big 12 starts this season. It was the second outing of the week for Tolleson, who recorded three strikeouts in two perfect innings of a predetermined 30-pitch start Tuesday at UT Arlington.
