A former minor league baseball pitcher, quarterback Michael Machen took advantage of an NCAA rule which allows student-athletes to graduate early and transfer without penalty, which he did by graduating from Kent State in August 2006 and then transferring to Baylor in January 2007 .... He emerged from spring practice No. 1 on the Bears' depth chart at quarterback and has one season of eligibility at Baylor ... Named to spring Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll ... Dean's List honoree in spring.

At Kent State: As a junior in 2006, he appeared in four games for the Golden Flashes and drew one start (at Virginia Tech) after the program switched to a run-oriented offensive attack ... Completed 9-of-23 passes with one interception and no touchdowns on the season ... Broke his collar bone 10 days prior to the 2006 season opener, which forced Kent to focus on a run-oriented attack ... As a sophomore in 2005, he became just the fourth different Kent State quarterback to throw for more than 2,000 yards in a season ... Played in and started 10 games in 2005 at Kent State, completing 200-of-365 passes for 2,078 yards and 11 touchdowns in first year in new system ...
